An Interview with Alisha

Why did you choose this residency program?
I chose my program because of the full-spectrum training it offers, its focus on community medicine, and the wonderful people. 

Why did you choose family medicine?
I chose family medicine because I knew I wanted to work with patients of all ages and stages of life, and to be able to have those continuity-based relationships. 

What is a typical day like in your life as a resident?
A typical day in the clinic might include morning huddles with the clinic staff, seeing patients, grabbing lunch with my co-residents between clinic sessions, and addressing my inbox! 

What do you like to do in your time outside of residency? I love to try new restaurants, crochet, and spend time with my cat. 

Why did you volunteer to join the Resident Council? I knew I wanted to continue being involved in advocacy work as a resident, and the Resident Council has been a great steppingstone for that. It has also been a fantastic way to get to know my network of fellow family physicians. 

Were you involved with ACOFP as a Student? I was. As a student, I served on the Student Resolutions committee and helped to author a resolution of my own! 

What is your one word of advice to students? Seek out the experiences in medicine that ignite your passion and joy. 

When was the first time you realized you wanted to be a physician? I attended a medical camp in high school and met many amazing, kind people. They inspired me to go into a field where I could truly help others.
