Why did you choose this residency program?
The FQHC model and the opportunity to serve underserved communities drew me to this program. The faculty were incredibly welcoming and modeled whole-person care by addressing the body, mind, and spirit of each patient.
Why did you choose family medicine?
I love caring for patients of all ages and treating the whole person. Family medicine allows me to build long-term relationships while enjoying a broad scope of practice, including outpatient care, inpatient medicine, and obstetrics.
What is a typical day like in your life as a resident?
Every month is a little different depending on my rotation, but I usually start the day with a workout, Bible reading, and prayer. Then I head to clinic, the hospital, or my current rotation. I like to end the day by playing music or spending time outdoors.
What do you enjoy outside of residency?
I enjoy music jam sessions with friends, hiking, biking, spending time outdoors, and catching up with friends over the phone.
Why did you join the ACOFP Resident Council?
I wanted to help advance osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) education and encourage its use in practice. I also enjoy mentoring osteopathic medical students who are interested in pursuing family medicine.
Were you involved with ACOFP as a student?
I was. I was an ACOFP member for all three years in medical school and served as the national liaison for my chapter.
What is one piece of advice you would give osteopathic medical students?
Don't lose sight of the "why" that inspired you to pursue medicine. The journey can be challenging, but remembering your purpose will help keep you motivated through the difficult moments.
When did you first realize you wanted to become a physician?
During my high school anatomy and physiology class. I was fascinated by the beauty of how the human body is designed and how everything works together.
If you could meet one historical figure, who would it be?
Horatio Spafford, the author of the hymn It Is Well with My Soul. I would love to hear firsthand about his unwavering faith and trust in God despite experiencing tremendous loss and suffering.
Who has been the most influential mentor in your life?
Michele Chadwick, an ethics specialist at my hospital. She has been an incredible source of wisdom, offering thoughtful guidance on both ethical challenges in medicine and life in general.
What would you title your autobiography?
Soli Deo Gloria
