About Jennifer L. Gwilym:

Biography & Education

Dr. Gwilym currently serves as the Interim Senior Dean and Chief Academic Officer at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she provides strategic leadership for the college's academic mission, including medical education, faculty affairs, student success, accreditation, and curricular innovation. Prior to her current role, she served as Chair of the Department of Primary Care, Senior Associate Dean of Admissions, and Clinical Assistant Dean, providing leadership across academic, admissions, and clinical education initiatives. She also serves as faculty advisor for the Student American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (SACOFP).

Committed to maintaining an active clinical presence, Dr. Gwilym precepts one half-day each week in a Family Medicine Residency Clinic, mentoring resident physicians while continuing to care for patients. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a deep commitment to graduate medical education, serving as both a Family Medicine Program Director and a Founding Family Medicine Program Director.

A respected leader within the osteopathic profession, Dr. Gwilym is an active member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP), the Ohio Osteopathic Association (OOA), and the Ohio Chapter of ACOFP. She is a Past President of both the OOA and Ohio ACOFP and has served in the AOA, OOA, and ACOFP Houses of Delegates for more than a decade. Her national leadership experience includes service on the AOA Board of Education Committee, the AOA Bureau of Federal Health Policy, and the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), where she served on the Executive Committee and chaired the Committee for College Accreditation Training. She has also held numerous leadership positions within ACOFP, including Chair of the Convention Planning Committee/CME Conference Advisory Committee, Vice Chair of the Kirk Leadership Academy (KLA) Committee, and member of the Health and Wellness Committee and the Women's Health and Leadership Committee.

Dr. Gwilym is committed to lifelong leadership development and has completed several distinguished executive and professional development programs, including the AOA Health Policy Fellowship, the Residency Director Fellowship Program, the Costin Leadership Institute Fellowship, the Administrator Leadership Development Program, Executive Presence for Senior Leaders, Strategic Finance for Executive Leaders, and the Women in Leadership Fellowship.

Her contributions to osteopathic medicine, medical education, physician leadership, and academic administration have been recognized through numerous honors, including the ACOFP Outstanding Female Leader of the Year Award, Ohio Osteopathic Association Distinguished Service Award, OU-HCOM Society of Alumni and Friends Distinguished Service Award, OU-HCOM Trillium Award, OU-HCOM CARE Award, the Adena Family Medicine Educator of the Year Award, the CREST Writing Award, and multiple OU-HCOM Distinguished Osteopathic Commitment Awards.
